About the event
iElevate the Senses is an outdoor exploration and nature-based art therapy program for neurodiverse kids grades 3 through 5 in the Charleston area. Our curriculum will be digitally published on our website and purchasable after the course so you can run this at home or in other areas using our model. The course will take elements of the natural environment, and allow children to join attention together in nature and work as a team to reconstruct a model replica of the city of Charleston using their own creative ideas. The course will focus on executive functioning skills: planning, initiation, task completion, and time management for the project. As well as social skills: team work, problem solving, and creative expression. We will also be working with various textures, scents, and materials for sensory input. This will be primarily in the outdoors using natural elements to encourage sustained focus and shared attention.
Some materials will be provided, but students will be encouraged to scavenge and hunt for environmental supports to use in their art.
This is an OT facilitated group that is designed to improve students' personal skills and developmental milestones. Danielle has a particular interest in facilitating communication, presentation skills, and professional development for young adults who are neurodiverse, and uses coaching as her primary therapeutic modality. You can see her other work at www.ielevateyourcareer.com.
